What Is Purpose?

Many think that having purpose lies inherently in the behaviors we exhibit. Society often deems some behaviors as more purposeful than others. While some behaviors are widely regarding as having no purpose at all. But if we examine the historical meaning of the word purpose, and we dissect & analyze it, we will find that the definition of purpose has as much to do with how and why one does something, as it does with what one actually does.

The word Purpose comes from the Old French purposer, meaning "to propose." This in turn comes from the combination of two latin words, pro, meaning "good, or benefit" and pausare meaning "to pause." In this light, it is clear that if something has purpose, it has some sort of plan or greater significance to which it is attributed. A proposal is often seen as a road map for success and prosperity; a planned course of action to ensure a desired result. If we think of purpose as a "pro-pause" as its Latin roots suggest, then we can visualize it as a mindful, conscientious, and constructive reflection on ones own course of action. If we carry this methodology with us throughout our daily behaviors, we could be said to be leading purposeful lives.

With Cultivating Purpose, you will learn how to find your optimal purpose and how to carry it with you in your daily life. By using a mindful, conscientious, and constructive "pro-pause" approach, we will be able to transform every behavior into a more purposeful one.
